KMC renames Suhrawardy Avenue as Gopal Mukherjee Road; CM Suvendu hails "historic decision"
In a spectacular and highly unconventional demonstration of physical fitness and mental endurance, the Indian Navy celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga 2026 by taking the practice deep beneath the water's surface. Forty submariners from the Navy's premier submarine training establishment, INS Satvahana, participated in a unique, synchronized underwater yoga session. The extraordinary feat quickly captured widespread attention across social media platforms after video clips of the underwater drill were shared online.
Operating in a completely submerged environment, the participating naval personnel executed a series of challenging, coordinated yoga postures, including the bhujangasana (cobra pose). The specialized session required a remarkable degree of breath control, absolute concentration, and physical stability. Naval officials noted that the successful execution of these exercises under the water's surface highlights the rigorous training, composure, and emotional resilience embedded within India's naval forces.
The underwater initiative was designed and conducted by in-house Naval Yoga practitioners under the direct supervision and guidance of Lieutenant Commander Aarush Sharma. By blending mindful movement with technical, controlled breathing techniques, the training session demonstrated how yoga can be effectively adapted to extreme and high-pressure environments. Such psychological and physical conditioning is considered invaluable for submariners who routinely operate within tight, confined spaces for extended periods.
